Lots of open beach to play on as well as driftwood and other dogs to play with.  The ambitious can walk a mile south on the beach to the acess road. There is an FBO on the field, but no food or other services.  Nothing to recommend it unless of course you are going to visit the Oregon State Univerity campus or the Osbourne Swim Center.  The airport is too far from town to walk. There will also be old tractors and gas farm machinery running and a small airmens museam.  Be sure to save the time for the local van tours.  The town of Vale is chock full of building murals depicting the towns Oregon trail roots. Usually a downslope is a good thing in the take off direction but you find yourself after lift off at the bottom of a wash and then encounter rising terrain. A friendly little place great for airplane watching.  On the ramp next to the transient parking are several   airplane builders.  If the hanger doors are open take a peekl in and you will often get a pleasant surprise.  The make persoanl jets out of carbon fiber.<br />+ Scappoose reminds me a bit of what a suburban airport should be, a bit like Aurora<span class="diffchar">.
