4S14S1/Gold BeachA bit far away from much of anything, but well worth the effort to get to. Gold Beach airport is a very easy to use airport shoehorned in between the beach and the steep coast range right on the Rogue River. Transient parking is midfield on the east side of the runway. Walk two blocks north from there and you are at the mouth of the Rogue River. There you can watch the fishing boats and fishing birds catching fish. On a good day there will be dozens of boats and hundreds of Pelicans. Now you have a choice. Walk two blocks to the west and you are on the beach. Walk two blocks to the east and you are in the harbor area. The beach is a wonderfull semi-protected area. My dogs love it there. Lots of open beach to play on as well as driftwood and other dogs to play with. The ambitious can walk a mile south on the beach to the access road. Head east on the access road and you can circle around the south end of the airport and back to the transient parking area. The harbor is nestled in the canyon along the river. Watch the fishing boats in the channel while eating fish fresh off the boat in the Port Hole Cafe. Across the parking lot from the cafe is a free museum and gift shop run by Jerry's Jet Boats. Great place for a day trip. Be warned you will not want to fly home. If you have more time then grab a jet boat tour up the river. Reservations are a must for the jet boats. Airnav - 4S1 ODA - 4S1
